What is Intellectual Well-Being?

Intellectual Well-Being is the ability to seek out knowledge and engage in activities that further develop critical thinking and global awareness. Intellectually well individuals engage in lifelong learning and activities across a range of subjects that enrich their lives, both personally and professionally.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

OLLI at UNL is a volunteer-driven adult-learning membership program designed for men and women 50 years of age and older. Partnering with the College of Education and Human Sciences, OLLI provides stimulating and varied noncredit educational opportunities. Along with great courses, OLLI also offers many social and cultural events, interest groups, and travel opportunities. 

OLLI at UNL is one of 124 Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes across the United States!

OLLI offers over 300 noncredit courses and events each year over five terms from August through July. Along with great courses, OLLI offers many social and cultural events, interest groups, and travel opportunities locally, across the United States, and internationally. Membership is required to take most courses, attend events and take advantage of all that OLLI has to offer. With membership, you may enroll in as many courses as you like. The OLLI program includes:

  • One-time classes
  • Multi-session courses
  • 5 Terms (2 in the fall, one in the winter, spring and summer)
  • Terms are each 6-weeks long
  • Classes are typically 90-minutes in length, meeting once per week
  • Courses are offered primarily during the day

Organizational Development and Training (ODT)

Through courses, workshops, resources, and networking, ODT offers programs for employees at every stage of their careers. Across all our roles on campus, ODT is committed to helping every Husker do big things and achieve their professional goals.

Huskers can achieve their goals through self-paced courses, workshops, and learning groups, a mentorship program, and more.

A few programs that ODT facilitates include: 

  • NRICH professional development (in-person and online) is for all university employees. These are a series of individual sessions and workshops that cover a wide range of topics. These sessions are perfect if you're looking for a quick, focused way to gain new skills and stay current in your field.
  • NSPIRE is a leadership development program specifically for supervisors and aspiring leaders. Participants work on key skills like effective communication, coaching, and motivating teams to become the kind of leaders who truly inspire others.
  • NCLUDE learning groups offer a space for candid conversations about belonging and community in everyday life. These semester-long small groups foster deep reflection and connection across students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community.

Kawasaki Reading Room

The Kawasaki Reading Room acts as a cultural bridge by providing educational resources and sharing Japanese culture, art, language and history to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and the extended community. We welcome the community to visit us during our regular business hours to study, relax, and look over our resources.

Employee & Dependent Scholarship Program

Full-time and retired employees who wish to continue their education may be eligible for tuition assistance through the employee scholarship program. 

Spouses and dependent children may also be eligible for this benefit.
