Based on the Health Coaches for Hypertension Control curriculum developed by the Clemson Institute for Engaged Aging, this evidence-based program is designed to support individuals manage hypertension. The framework of this program is developed around educational topics including nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and medication adherence. The format of this 12-month program is set in a virtual small group setting, beginning with 12 weeks of consecutive weekly meetings, followed by monthly check-ins. Program Overview
The Healthy Heart, Healthy Workplace program is to improve hypertension self-management in small group educational sessions. The key take aways of this program include:
- Increasing knowledge of hypertension self-management
- Determining and increasing stage of readiness to make lifestyle changes
- Promoting behavior changes in topics such as nutrition, physical activity, tobacco use, stress management, and medication adherence and management
This 12-month program is organized into two sections:
Section 1 consists of 12 weeks of weekly live zoom sessions 60 minutes each.
Section 2 consists of monthly continuing education sessions designed to check on program material adherence and lifestyle change progress.

Participant Eligibility
To take part in this program, an individual must:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Be actively employed for University of Nebraska-Lincoln (this includes Nebraska Extension offices and University Research Centers)
- Full-time extension volunteers are eligible to participate.
